CAREER SUMMARY
Ms. Jewett is an Emergency Response Preparedness Coordinator within Iowa State University’s Department of Environmental Health & Safety. She is also a Principal with Highmark Associates, LLC. With over 12 years of experience in the environmental health and safety field, Ms. Jewett has a broad background working with various regulatory agencies. She has expertise working in emergency response preparedness, claims administration and budgetary concerns.
STORMREADY® UNIVERSITY
Ms. Jewett spearheaded the application process for Iowa State University to be designated a StormReady® University by the National Weather Service. She oversees the university’s weather radio program and consults with buildings on evacuation and notification plans.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE PREPAREDNESS
Ms. Jewett has completed numerous specialized hazard mitigation planning and emergency response training courses, including the FEMA Emergency Management Institute Professional Development Series. She actively participates in both state and local exercises and drills and has served as a controller/evaluator for several tabletop, functional and full-scale exercises. Ms. Jewett was the Iowa State University Site Safety Officer/Coordinator for a multi-jurisdictional search and rescue exercise conducted on the ISU Knapp/Storms rubble pile after the buildings were imploded.
CLAIMS ADMINISTRATION
Ms. Jewett assisted in the administration of multi-million dollar disaster claims for multiple disaster events at Iowa State University in 1993, 1996, 1998 and 1999. Her 1993 flood claims in excess of $7 million passed an audit by FEMA’s Office of Inspector General with no report of findings or reimbursement required. She also assisted with hazard mitigation grant applications for several projects including the Maple, Willow, Larch ring dike.
